Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

Human life depends on the terrestrial ecosystems for sustenance and livelihoods. Healthy ecosystems, such as forests, wetlands, mountains and, drylands, provide multiple environmental goods and services - clean air and water, biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation. Goal 15 is aimed at protecting, restoring and promoting sustainable use of such terrestrial ecosystems; sustainable management of forests; restoration of land affected by desertification and land degradation and integration of ecosystems and biodiversity into national and local planning. It also seeks to promote fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources and prevent poaching and trafficking of protected species of flora and fauna.
